From humble beginnings to a 17-state footprint, THS National has grown into one of the nation’s most trusted multifamily general contractors

When THS National (THS) was founded in 2007, it was a little more than an idea and a huge leap of faith. What began as a family-and-friends multifamily renovation startup has since evolved into a national general contractor with over 150 team members serving communities across the US. The early vision was simple: build something bigger than anyone could imagine, grounded in trust, hard work, and shared values.

“In the beginning, our dream was just to hit $10 million in revenue one day,” recalls CEO Brian Higgins. “Now, seeing how far we’ve come, and the people we’ve brought along on this journey, it is humbling.”

The company’s first office was in Charlotte, North Carolina, before relocating its headquarters to Apex in 2008. Growth was not without challenge; the housing crisis tested the team’s perseverance, but those tough years birthed a culture of resilience. By 2011, THS had surpassed its $10 million goal in revenue, which marked the start of steady growth that spans more than a dozen markets nationwide today.

Along the way, THS welcomed new partners into ownership, reinforcing its ethos that success is meant to be shared. “We’ve always believed that if you commit, work hard, and live our values, there’s a path to partnership here,” Brian explains. “That’s how you build something lasting.”

Sustained growth

Today, THS is a trusted partner known for setting the highest standard for renovations via a combination of safety, precision, competitive pricing, and exceptional customer service. The company focuses on three sectors: multifamily, affordable housing, and interior repositions. Within affordable housing, THS offers industry-leading pre-construction services, real-time updates through integrated construction software, and expert professionals dedicated to each project to maximize investment. For the interiors repositions sector, THS delivers full transparency into project scope and timelines, and is able to work around operations to minimize client disruption.

THS also specializes in the multifamily sector, from apartments and student housing to senior living and affordable communities. The company acts as a full-service general contractor, delivering projects that range from roofing, painting, siding, windows, doors, flooring, and interior repositions to complete clubhouse and amenity renovations.

This range of capabilities allows THS to meet client needs across entire properties, whether through targeted capital improvements or large-scale, multi-scope projects. “At the end of the day, we tell clients that we do ‘basically everything’,” Brian says with a smile.

Culture that connects

With more than 150 people serving communities across 17 states, maintaining a sense of close connection could be difficult, but at THS, culture is the glue. Hard work is recognized and rewarded. Team members have opportunities to grow into leadership roles, supported by coaching, professional development, and hands-on training.

“The thing I’m most proud of is the culture we’ve built,” Brian reflects. “Even though we are spread out, people still feel connected. If you work hard here, you’re rewarded. That’s the promise.”

THS has also been recognized consistently for four years as a ‘Best Place to Work,’ underscoring its commitment to employee growth, well-being, and a family-first culture.

Values in action

THS’ mission is clear: to deliver the highest standard of construction and renovation projects, safely, on budget, and on time. However, the company’s values extend beyond its investment in its people, treatment of clients as long-term partners, and giving back to the community.

The company’s values – peerless craftsmanship, comprehensive expertise, community centered, and empowered culture – focus on revitalizing communities and transforming the lives of those who live and work within them.

Mentorship, though informal today, is being structured into a formal program to ensure tomorrow’s leaders are nurtured from within. “We identify excellence, promote people into leadership, and then invest in them with coaching and development,” says Brian. “That’s how you create a pipeline of future leaders.”

‘Get Involved’ isn’t just a slogan; it is a core value. The company has long invested time and resources in causes that matter, from supporting PTSD foundations and Camp Hope to volunteering at youth clubs and renovating halfway houses.

Employees also engage locally, whether serving in churches, schools, or youth athletics. Brian himself is passionate about supporting high school wrestling programs. “Sometimes it might be easier to write a check,” he admits, “but it’s a lot more personal when you’re out there sweating, building something with your own hands.”

The THS difference

In an industry where projects don’t always go perfectly, THS believes the true test of a contractor is how they respond. “We’ve been doing this for 19 years and unexpected things happen,” Brian says. “However, what matters is that we own it, fix it, and stand by our clients.”

The company’s competitive edge lies in two areas: people and scale. With like-minded, client-focused professionals across 17 states, THS delivers a consistent experience nationwide while still maintaining a local, owner-operator mentality.

“We’re privately held by the people who actually care about delivering well,” Brian emphasizes. “Our name and reputation are on the line every time.”

Looking ahead

As THS approaches its 20-year milestone, the company is preparing to mark the occasion with reflection and renewal, as well as a continued commitment to raising the bar for the multifamily industry.

“If you’re not growing, you’re dying,” Brian concludes. “For us, growth means creating opportunities for our people, expanding to serve clients in new markets, and never losing our family feel. I believe that’s what the highest standard is all about.”
